Re: UTF8 string normalization

Hi Arne,

I checked copying a string from finder to our modified VSTGUI text edit that uses precompiled UTF-8 strings and it works perfectly fine here. I am using Mojave on an APFS formatted drive.

Regards,

Joscha

Re: UTF8 string normalization

Hi Arne, okay, this is an interesting fact. Thanks for the info, I really did not have any idea why one would like to explicitely use decomposed UTF-8 strings. We encountered a problem with our new plug-in internal preset management system, we currently develop. The problem was that when a user crea...

UTF8 string normalization

Hi, during the development of a plug-in internal preset management system, I recognized the problem that strings received from text edits have a different UTF8 normalization. For example, the character "ä" on Mac is encoded as 0x61CC88 and on Windows as 0xC3A4. So, on Mac, VSTGUI prefers to work wit...

Re: Scalable UI: Maximum Scale

Thank you Arne. Our experiences with this are that all DAWs behave differently. The worst-case for us happens in Pro Tools, where the upper part of the UI gets cut-off, so you would lose the option to change back the zoom factor and you get lost forever.

Scalable UI: Maximum Scale

Hello, I guess this is a common problem, so I decided to ask in this board. Is there an easy way in VSTGUI to determine the maximum resolution for a plug-in's editor? For example, if the maximum height would be 2000 and the editor's height is 1200, a zoom factor of 2 should be impossible. Regards, J...

Re: IMidiLearn

OK, that was always the problem if a plug-in likes to do this for itself. This was already the case with VST2.x and one of the reasons why we think that this is a host responsibility. Just think about a merged MIDI input where two or more actual hardware devices will control a plug-in. A host can m...

Re: IMidiLearn

Hi Arne, thanks for the quick answer. The use case is the following. We show the MIDI mapping in the UI like this: https://pluginalliance-my.sharepoint.com/personal/joscha_rieber_plugin-alliance_com/Documents/Screenshot%202019-02-12%20at%2011.14.34.png So, the user is always able to see and manipula...

IMidiLearn

I have a question regarding the IMidiLearn interface. As far as I understand this interface, the actual MIDI mapping is still performed from within the host and not from within the plugin. So, the plugin still does not receive the actual MIDI control change event values, but is only notified about a...

Re: MIDI Input in Cakewalk

Ah, okay! Thanks for the info, Arne. That's the rule we missed.

Re: MIDI Input in Cakewalk

Okay, I have fixed it. The problem was that Cakewalk missed activating the MIDI event bus. So, the bus was not activated internally, but the host still sends MIDI events correctly. If I disregard the event bus active state, it works fine.
